Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about Spencer: listing a studio, offering your services, collaborating, managing your projects and getting paid securely.
General
What is Spencer?
Spencer is a collaborative music creation platform. It lets artists find studios that fit their needs, start collaborations with audio professionals, manage their music projects and share their tracks through a dedicated Listening Room.
Is Spencer free?
Yes, Spencer is free. A commission is applied only to collaborations carried out through the platform. Partners (studios, sound engineers, producers) can subscribe to a plan to reduce their commissions.
How do I create an account?
You can sign up with your email address or your Google account. After signing up, a confirmation email is sent to validate your account.
Services & studios
How do I add my services?
From your dashboard, go to the Activity tab. Add your services (recording, mixing, mastering, etc.) and specify your rates and conditions. A service can be offered at the studio or delivered remotely only. Your services will be visible to artists, who can send you Co-Lab requests. Adding a first service is a prerequisite for creating a studio, setting up Stripe and accessing the Pro space.
How do I list my studio on Spencer?
Prerequisite: you must have added at least one service. Then go to the Activity tab of your dashboard: an "Add a studio" button appears in the right-hand column. Follow the creation form step by step. You can also add a studio at the end of the service creation process. Each service can then be attached to a studio.
Can I edit or delete my studio listing?
Yes. From your studio space, you can edit all the information in your listing at any time. Deletion is available in your studio settings.
How do I activate my Stripe account?
Prerequisite: you must have added at least one service. You can set up your Stripe account in two ways: with the "Set up Stripe" button that appears at the end of adding a service, or from the Pro space tab of your dashboard (this tab becomes visible after you add your first service). Once Stripe is activated, you can receive payments for your Co-Labs directly in your account.
Collaborations
What is a Co-Lab?
A Co-Lab is a collaboration between an artist and a provider (studio, sound engineer, producer) on Spencer. It frames a project: choice of services, price quote, messaging, progress tracking and secure payment, all directly in the app.
How do I propose or accept a collaboration?
To propose a Co-Lab, go to a provider's profile and click "Collaborate". Select a project, choose the services you want and add a note if needed. The provider receives your request and can send you a quote with their rates, location and lead times. You can then accept it or discuss the terms by message.
Projects & tracks
How do I publish a track?
Create a project from your space, then add tracks to it. You can upload your audio files by category (instrumental, lyrics, demo, mix, master, stems) and fill in the metadata: title, key, BPM and cover art. Your tracks can then be shared with your collaborators for review.
How does the Listening Room work?
The Listening Room is a collaborative review space. It displays your track's waveform and lets your collaborators leave timestamped comments at precise moments of the song. Every version of the file is kept so you can follow the project's progress.
Does Spencer compress my audio files?
No. Spencer never alters your audio files at any stage: not on upload, not in storage, not on playback. The file you upload is kept as is — same format, same bitrate, same quality. A 48 kHz 24-bit WAV stays a 48 kHz 24-bit WAV. Accepted formats are MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, OGG, M4A and WebM, up to 1 GB per file.

How are my audio files protected on Spencer?
Your sounds are stored on Cloudflare R2, an object storage infrastructure that is SOC 2 Type II certified and GDPR compliant. Files are encrypted at rest (on the servers) and in transit (HTTPS only). Access to the storage is restricted to Spencer through private API keys — no third party can access your bucket. On the application side, every upload is authenticated and download links are signed and expire after one hour. Your files are also partitioned by account: a user can never access another user's files.
